Hospitality sector urged to act on wellbeing as new guide launches

Hospitality Action has published a practical guide aimed at improving mental health and wellbeing in the sector.
The guide, named: “Next Steps: What the industry can do to improve wellbeing in hospitality” sets out strategies for businesses and individuals to support staff, following survey findings that 76% of hospitality workers have faced mental health challenges. The guide has been published in partnership with Walk for Wellbeing.
Mark Lewis, Hospitality Action’s Chief Executive, said:
“Hospitality is a dynamic and exciting industry, but it comes with its own pressures. We want to help employers prioritise the wellbeing of their teams, and this guide offers practical solutions and actionable steps to support employees – which are relatively easy to implement – to create a culture that supports the mental health and wellbeing of all, no matter what area of hospitality they work in.”
The guide recommends measures such as introducing wellbeing champions and mental health first-aiders, providing access to 24/7 employee assistance programmes and promoting a better work/life balance. It also highlights the importance of regular staff check-ins, feedback surveys and open discussions, alongside supporting wider initiatives like Walk for Wellbeing.
Now in its fifth year, Walk for Wellbeing is powered by hospitality talent partner mum and supported by Caterer.com, Imperial London Hotels, Lifetime Training, Mews and Peoplebank. The annual event encourages teams across the UK to take part in sponsored walks, raising funds for individuals and families in the sector facing hardship.
