Currys expands wellbeing support through Retail Trust partnership

Currys has launched a new partnership with retail charity the Retail Trust to expand mental health and wellbeing support for its 15,000 UK employees.
The retailer will provide staff and their households with access to counselling, financial aid and a 24-hour wellbeing helpline. The support also includes a specialist service for young people, reflecting a broader shift towards more inclusive, family-focused workplace wellbeing provision.
The partnership comes at a time of declining wellbeing across the retail sector. The Retail Trust’s latest Retail People Index found that nearly half of retail workers experience verbal or physical abuse on a weekly basis, highlighting the growing pressures facing frontline employees.
As part of the initiative, Currys employees will also have access to training and digital tools designed to help them manage abuse at work. The Retail Trust’s AI-powered wellbeing dashboard will be used to identify trends in employee mental health, enabling earlier intervention and more targeted support.
Alongside this, Currys has invested in colleague safety across its stores, including new incident reporting systems, upgraded CCTV and strengthened security infrastructure.
Paula Coughlan, Chief People, Communications and Sustainability Officer at Currys, said: “I’m really proud to share that we’ve launched a new wellbeing partnership with the Retail Trust, which provides all colleagues, and everyone in their household, with access to a significantly broader range of wellbeing support than ever before.
“It’s another meaningful step forward and builds on the culture of care, trust and support across Currys. My hope is that this makes a real difference for our colleagues and their families, whenever life throws something their way.”
Currys reports strong levels of employee engagement, with its latest internal survey placing it in the top three per cent of companies globally. The retailer says continued investment in wellbeing is central to sustaining this performance.
Chris Brook-Carter, chief executive of the Retail Trust, said: “Our new partnership will help Currys to create happier and healthier workplaces in its stores and offices across the UK.
“We’re giving Currys colleagues access to new training, tools and expert help whenever they need it, and providing managers with more insight to better protect their teams’ wellbeing.”
The Retail Trust’s platform also allows employers to monitor wellbeing in real time, benchmark performance and assess the impact of interventions, signalling a shift towards more data-driven approaches to workforce health.
