Bupa and YuLife launch workplace health cash plan focused on prevention and engagement

Bupa and YuLife have launched a new workplace Health Cash Plan designed to combine everyday healthcare support with digital wellbeing tools aimed at improving employee health and reducing absence.
The Bupa x YuLife Health Cash Plan brings together Bupa’s healthcare services with YuLife’s app-based wellbeing platform, which uses challenges, rewards and behavioural tools to encourage healthier habits among employees.
The launch comes as employers continue to face growing pressure around sickness absence and presenteeism. According to figures referenced by the companies, around 150 million working days are lost to illness in the UK each year, while a further £25 billion is linked to employees working while unwell.
The new cash plan allows employees to claim back the cost of everyday healthcare services including dental and optical treatment, prescriptions, diagnostics and therapies. It also integrates a range of digital health services through the YuLife app, including online GP appointments, musculoskeletal support and a skin-check tool for potential skin cancer concerns.
Employees also have access to Bupa’s Employee Assistance Programme and 24/7 nurse helpline.
The partnership reflects a broader shift taking place across workplace health, with employers increasingly looking for preventative and engagement-led health models rather than standalone benefits or reactive support.
Dan Sullivan, Director of Product and Proposition at Bupa UK Insurance, said employers were looking for support that helps people stay healthy before problems escalate.
“Businesses are under growing pressure from rising levels of absence and poor workforce wellbeing,” he said. “Employers are looking for solutions that not only support people when they become unwell, but help them stay healthy in the first place.
“Expanding access to healthcare is central to Bupa’s strategy. By bringing together high-quality care, preventive support and digital wellbeing services, we’re evolving to meet the changing needs of our customers and making healthcare accessible and affordable for more people.”
The launch also reflects growing interest in how digital wellbeing platforms can support engagement with workplace health benefits, an issue that continues to challenge many employers despite increased investment in wellbeing provision.
YuLife said employers using the platform can also access anonymised workforce wellbeing data and engagement insights through its Yunity analytics layer, designed to identify emerging trends and support earlier intervention.
According to YuLife, early internal engagement data suggests the platform has contributed to a 20 per cent increase in physical activity, a 53 per cent reduction in stress levels and an 11.5 per cent reduction in absenteeism among engaged users.
Josh Hart, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at YuLife, said the aim was to make workplace healthcare support more accessible for organisations of different sizes.
“This Cash Plan is the all-in-one employee benefit, built for companies of every size and priced so more of them can offer it,” he said.
“Instead of absorbing the cost of people being off work, employers now have a Bupa x YuLife solution they can put in place today.”
