The Pharmacists’ Defence Association (PDA) is inviting pharmacists and trainees across the UK to take part in a wellbeing survey designed to capture workplace experiences and identify what support is most needed.

The survey is part of the PDA’s five-year Workforce Wellbeing Strategy, launched earlier this year, which aims to strengthen the mental health, financial resilience and overall wellbeing of the profession.

Since 2017, the PDA has donated £1 per member each year to Pharmacist Support, the profession’s charity. Contributions now exceed £300,000. The new strategy builds on this commitment, providing access to wellbeing resources, peer networks, mental health training, financial guidance and engagement activities.

The PDA has already rolled out an internal wellbeing programme, including staff surveys and training events, and is now extending its approach to the wider profession. Data from the survey will be used to identify immediate obstacles and shape next steps. The survey closes on 12 October 2025.

Jay Badenhorst, PDA Director of Pharmacy, said:

“ The launch of our Workplace Wellbeing & Culture Survey marks a significant milestone for the PDA. It’s the result of tireless work from our dedicated team at the PDA and the invaluable collaboration with our partners. Together, we’re driving forward a vision that puts pharmacists at the heart of positive change.”

Danielle Hunt, Chief Executive at Pharmacist Support, added:

“Our partnership with the PDA is built on the shared values of inclusion, wellbeing and helping pharmacists to thrive. So, it’s great to see the PDA investing in the wellbeing of its team and members. This survey will offer valuable insight into the wellbeing support needs of PDA members, which in turn will help both organisations shape and enhance the wellbeing support we provide in the future.”

As part of the strategy, the PDA will run a series of online and in-person events, including mental health awareness courses, leadership training, peer forums and financial resilience workshops. The association is also inviting stakeholders to collaborate on delivering long-term support for the sector.

Pharmacists and trainees can complete the survey on the PDA website.
