Deka, the functional fitness and hybrid racing brand created by the founders of Spartan, has launched a corporate wellness initiative designed to bring team-based physical activity into the workplace wellbeing agenda. The programme, called Deka Ignite, will debut on 24 July 2026 at Manchester Central and is aimed at organisations looking to strengthen employee health, engagement and team cohesion.
The initiative centres on a team fitness challenge where groups of four employees work together to complete a series of functional fitness zones within a 90-minute time limit. Organisers say the format is designed to be accessible to participants of all abilities, from those new to exercise through to experienced athletes.
Workplace wellbeing professionals increasingly view physical activity and shared experiences as important tools for strengthening culture, connection and resilience among employees. As hybrid working and burnout remain persistent issues across UK workplaces, initiatives that combine physical health with team collaboration are gaining attention from employers looking for practical ways to support staff wellbeing.
The inaugural Deka Ignite event in Manchester will see teams complete 10 functional fitness “zones”, including exercises such as weighted lunges, rowing and the “Tank” push and pull. Each zone is connected by 500 metre runs that require teams to manage effort, pacing and strategy together. Teams will compete in male, female and mixed categories.
“Deka Ignite is about the power of collective effort and the strength found within a community which is at the heart of everything Deka aims to achieve,” said Emily leRoux, vice-president of Deka. “By launching this challenge to the UK (and especially Manchester as a proud Mancunian), we strive to give organisations a platform to put employee health and wellness as a priority, and build more vibrant, connected corporate cultures.”
Organisers say the team format is intended to encourage collaboration rather than individual performance, helping employees support each other throughout the challenge. The event also reflects a wider shift in workplace wellbeing programmes towards experiential initiatives that bring people together outside the traditional office setting.
Deka is part of the wider Spartan fitness ecosystem, which includes obstacle racing events held across more than 40 countries. The brand operates through a network of more than 1,000 affiliated gyms worldwide and hosts more than 1,500 events across 12 countries.
For employers, initiatives such as Deka Ignite represent another avenue for embedding wellbeing into workplace culture. Research across the UK workplace wellbeing sector continues to show that physical activity, social connection and shared goals can support employee engagement, retention and mental resilience when integrated into broader health and wellbeing strategies.
Events like this also highlight the growing intersection between corporate wellbeing and community-based fitness initiatives, as organisations look for ways to encourage healthier lifestyles while strengthening team relationships.
The Manchester event marks the first UK corporate-focused competition under the Deka Ignite format, with further events expected as the programme expands internationally.
The initiative reflects a broader trend across the workplace wellbeing market: employers are increasingly looking beyond traditional benefits and programmes to create shared experiences that support both physical health and organisational culture.
