Aviva is introducing changes to the DigiCare+ app services attached to its individual protection policies, extending access to digital GP appointments and expanding wellbeing support for policyholders and their families.

From 29 January 2026, customers will have access to unlimited digital GP appointments, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The service will be available to the policyholder, their partner or spouse and dependent children up to the age of 18, or 21 if in full-time education. This replaces the current allowance of three appointments per year, previously limited to between 8.00 am and 8.00 pm.

Aviva said the change reflects customer and adviser demand for greater flexibility and access to medical advice, particularly outside standard working hours.

In addition to the expanded GP provision, Aviva is increasing the annual appointment allowance for its mental health, bereavement counselling and nutrition services from six to eight sessions per year for each service. The sessions are delivered digitally and can be shared between eligible family members.

A new personal training service is also being introduced as part of the DigiCare+ app. Customers will be able to access up to eight online consultations per year with a personal trainer, who will assess fitness levels, goals and barriers before creating a digital training plan.

Fran Bruce, managing director of protection at Aviva, said: “Aviva’s latest enhancements to DigiCare+ on our individual protection policies reflect our commitment to supporting our customers and their families with accessible, round-the-clock healthcare and wellbeing services. Unlimited digital GP appointments, now available 24/7, means customers and family members can get medical advice whenever they need it.”

She added: “We are also delighted to expand our mental health, bereavement and nutrition support, along with adding a new personal trainer offering, to further support our customers with wellbeing and prevention.”

Alongside the service expansion, Aviva is introducing a charge of £39.95 for the finger-prick annual health check and follow-up digital clinician appointment accessed through the app. The health check had previously been offered at no additional cost.

Bruce said: “While the Annual Health Check will now carry a small cost, this change helps ensure we are providing a really high-quality added-value benefit, with extended value to all customers and family members through unlimited access to a digital GP service.”

Aviva said internal customer data and adviser insight show that digital GP access is the most valued service within its health and wellbeing offering.

The DigiCare+ app is provided by Square Health. Aviva said the services are non-contractual benefits and may be changed or withdrawn, subject to terms, conditions and residency restrictions.
