A new low-cost digital wellbeing plan has been launched to cater for employers looking to reduced absence, following changes to statutory sick pay.

Medicash has introduced a digital-first health plan priced at £1.95 per employee per month, alongside upgrades to its existing offer, in a move aimed at supporting earlier intervention and prevention in the workplace.

The changes follow the introduction of Day-One Statutory Sick Pay under the Employment Rights Act 2025, which has increased the focus on keeping employees in work rather than managing absence after it occurs.

Andrew Healy, chief executive of Medicash, said the shift is prompting employers to rethink their approach to workforce health.

“The introduction of Day-One Statutory Sick Pay is a significant shift for employers, increasing the importance of preventing absence rather than simply managing it,” Healy said.

“For advisers, this creates an opportunity to reframe the conversation – it’s no longer just about what a product pays out, but how it keeps people in work.”

The launch comes as absence levels remain a concern. UK employees take an average of 9.4 sick days per year, according to the CIPD, placing increased strain on employers and reinforcing the need for preventative health strategies.

The new plan, Remedi, is aimed at organisations with more than 500 employees and provides access to 12 digital health and wellbeing services through an app, with an optional virtual GP service available for an additional monthly fee.

New services include digital vision checks, menopause support and neurodevelopment pathways, including ADHD and autism assessments. These services will also be made available across Medicash’s wider corporate offering.

The company has also expanded its HealthLens service, which now includes unlimited scans and wearable integration, and added new content to its wellbeing app, including nutrition, men’s health and guided exercise support.

Healy said the changes reflect a broader shift in how employers view workplace wellbeing, with greater emphasis on inclusion, engagement and productivity.

“By expanding into areas such as menopause, neurodiversity and digital health screening, we’re aligning our proposition more closely with the drivers of workforce productivity, engagement and inclusion.

“For intermediaries, this means a more relevant, preventative and commercially valuable solution as employers adapt to legislative change.”

The launch highlights a growing trend towards digital, preventative health support in the workplace, as organisations seek to address the link between employee wellbeing, absence and long-term workforce health outcomes.
