Aviva appoints Mark Thompson to chair workplace pensions governance committee

Aviva has appointed Mark Thompson as chair of its Independent Governance Committee (IGC), which provides independent oversight of the provider’s workplace pension arrangements.
The committee is responsible for assessing whether workplace pension customers receive value for money and representing their interests in scrutiny of Aviva’s pension provision.
Thompson brings experience across pensions, investment and governance, including work with some of the UK’s largest pension schemes.
Simon Ellis, workplace pensions director at Aviva, said: “Mark brings a wealth of pensions, investment and governance expertise gained over a distinguished career spanning some of the UK’s largest pension schemes. His extensive experience and independent perspective will be invaluable as the IGC continues its important role in challenging and supporting Aviva to deliver good customer outcomes.”
The appointment is relevant to employers and benefits leaders responsible for workplace pension provision, with governance and value for money forming an important part of how organisations assess the financial benefits offered to employees.
