Heka adds personalised life insurance to employee benefits platform

Employee benefits platform Heka has partnered with life insurer Surely to give employees access to personalised life insurance through their workplace benefits.

Surely, the life insurance brand of Certua Life, will be available to employees whose organisations use Heka, with individual cover available through the platform from £5 a month.

Rather than providing a fixed policy that remains unchanged, Surely’s model is designed to revisit cover at renewal and adjust it as an individual’s circumstances change, such as buying a home or having children.

Employees can arrange individual life cover through Heka in minutes, with policies starting from £5 a month. The starting price is based on a 30-year-old non-smoker without medical conditions taking £100,000 of cover.

The partnership aims to address a significant protection gap in the UK, while making life insurance more accessible through an employee benefits platform people already use for their health and wellbeing.

The Financial Conduct Authority’s Pure Protection Market Study interim report, published in January 2026, found 72 per cent of identified protection needs in the UK are not covered.

It said the gap persists partly because consumers are not aware of their protection needs or are not prompted to consider them.

Tom Williams, CEO and Founder of Certua Life, said: “Most people who need life insurance are never offered it– and what is offered rarely fits the life it’s meant to protect. Heka is the natural place to change that: a platform its members already use and trust to look after their wellbeing. From today, they can protect the people they love in the same place, with cover that is shaped around their own lives and built to change as their needs do. It’s time for something new.”

Heka provides employees with personalised access to support spanning mental health, fitness, nutrition, general health, fertility, menopause, learning and finance.

The company said 98.5 per cent of bookings made through its platform are for preventative health rather than treatment after a health issue has developed.

Alex Hind, CEO and Founder of Heka, said: “People do their best work when they’re supported as individuals, and that means the whole picture, not just the parts that fit a benefits catalogue. With financial wellbeing such a hot topic, giving people ways to choose peace of mind from their benefits is timely and important. Surely fits Heka because it’s so flexible: most life cover is fixed on the day it’s sold and never looked at again, while people’s circumstances keep moving. Surely is built to be revisited as life changes, which is the same principle the rest of Heka runs on.”
